Overview
Gorta - Swatragh’s Famine Story invites visitors to step back in time and discover the compelling history of Swatragh village and the inspiring legacy of Dr. Mooney. This visitor center uses storytelling and design to share the history of the village and Dr. Mooney.
Visitors will learn about Dr. Mooney and his wife, Sarah, who ran a surgery and helped the community during the Great Hunger by starting a soup kitchen. The center uses panels and videos to show their hard work. Bog oak sculptures created by Kieran Tuohy add to the experience.
A visit includes a free postcard as a memento of the experience. Please note that meals are not included. This experience offers a look into the past and is perfect for those who want to learn more about history.
