Overview
Silfra: Diving Between Tectonic Plates - Meet on Location offers a once-in-a-lifetime adventure: diving or snorkeling in the crystal-clear waters between the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates. This unique experience takes place in Silfra, a fissure in Thingvellir National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site and a highlight of Iceland's famous Golden Circle route.
The glacial water in Silfra has been filtered through underground lava rock for decades, resulting in incredible underwater visibility of over 100 meters. Divers explore four main sections: the Big Crack, Silfra Hall, Silfra Cathedral, and Silfra Lagoon. A highlight is the chance to touch both continents simultaneously, creating an unforgettable photo opportunity. The tour is conducted in a dry suit, ensuring warmth and comfort in the cool water.
Upon arrival, divers meet their guide, a certified PADI instructor, who provides all necessary diving equipment, including a drysuit and warm undersuit. After a briefing on safety and the geology of Thingvellir National Park, participants gear up in a heated changing van. The dive lasts approximately 30-45 minutes, followed by hot chocolate and cookies to warm up after the cold water experience. This small-group tour ensures a personalized and high-quality adventure.
